Summary
When Themyscira and the remnants of Olympus fell, the Gods weren’t the only refugees to come to Earth. A small horde of mystical creatures have found their way here, and they’re determined to start new lives…but what happens when the people of our world are equally determined not to let them? Can Diana open their minds and show them that a centaur is more than half a person?
Positives
Xermanico’s cover is great. I love the colors and the texture. It’s an effective cover; I understand immediately what the story is about.
The interior art is amazing. I always love Emanuela Lupacchino’s work and I am thrilled every time I see her name on the cover. She does wonderful work and this issue is no different. And combined with McCarthy and Fajardo, the book is gorgeous.
This is a fun and simple story. It’s standard fish out of water stuff but it’s executed well enough. G. Willow Wilson gives the three each unique voices and they are all very sympathetic. I enjoyed reading an issue about them.
Negatives
While I enjoyed this issue, I can see people being disappointed at the lack of Wonder Woman. She is only in two scenes. That wasn’t a huge problem for me, but I can understand why some might be frustrated with that.
Verdict
I enjoyed this issue. It’s fun; I like fish out of water stories and this is a solid one. The prejudice the three face is interesting and I especially like when they point out that Diana doesn’t receive as much as flack for also being a refugee is because of how she looks. That’s a solid note. The art is gorgeous which is where my main enjoyment comes from.
