What is someone’s gain is someone else’s loss. Marvel have managed to bring back (for the 2nd time) DC’s Batman editor Mike Marts as their Executive Editor from February. Marks previously worked at Marvel from 1996-2006, he worked his way through to Senior Editor and managed titles such as New X-Men with Grant Morrison and Frank Quietly and Astonishing X-Men with Joss Whedon and John Cassaday. The end of result, he was the manager of the X-Men office.
With Marts coming back as Executive Editor, no word has been mentioned as to what titles he will be running.
“Mike Marts is a seasoned veteran who’s edited some of the most critically acclaimed and highest-selling series of the last decade,” said Marvel Editor in Chief Axel Alonso in a statement. “I’m overjoyed to see him return home, and I can’t wait to see what he brings to Marvel!”
“It’s amazing to see how Marvel has grown as a company since I worked there last,” Marts added in the announcement. “I am beyond thrilled to be rejoining this powerhouse at such an exciting time.”
There has been speculation that DC Comics will be moving their corporate offices to move in with DC Entertainment which is located in Burbank, CA. This may have been the reason for Mart’s move. DC apparently have been asking their NYC staff if they would be willing to move to Burbank and Marts may not be the last DC employee to jump ship.
There is no official statement by DC.
