Summary

Absolute Batman #7 – It’s about to get icy cold in Gotham City…as we reveal the connections between a young, up-and-coming scientist named Victor Fries, his history with the Ark M experiment, and what it all has to do with the mysterious Joker. A bombastic two-parter with a guest artist, the one and only super-star Marcos MartĂn, starts here!

Positives

This issue starts with Bruce’s friends from crime alley discussing his revelation about him being Batman. I like how Snyder shows how each friend was crucial in Bruce’s help with keeping Gotham safe. It’s almost as if they were all a part of his utility belt, metaphorically speaking. Here, Bruce notices that, after the events of Black Mask in the previous issue, Gotham has changed. The police force is now heavily armored and constantly searching for Batman in the skies. Trying to keep a low profile isn’t an issue for Bruce, but with things becoming more difficult, he enlists Matches Malone, an old friend, to give him access to Ark M — an unknown project.

In the pursuit of helping Bruce, something horrible happens to Matches. Seeking answers, Bruce goes to Ark M himself and encounters Victor Fries Jr., a brilliant young scientist.

Negatives

I don’t have any negatives about this issue.

Verdict

Absolute Batman #7 was a good read. Snyder gave us a slightly different origin story for Victor here and I loved it. However, I didn’t notice a suit in this issue, and I’ve grown accustomed to seeing many variations of the freeze technology and suit over the years, so I can’t wait to see how different this particular Mr. Freeze will look in the next few issues.

Score: 5/5
