Summary

Absolute Batman #8 – Batman is in the fight for his life against this icy new threat. But in the end, what terrifying truth will be unearthed about Ark M and…Joker?

Positives

While attempting to find out what happened to his friend Matches Malone, Bruce Wayne infiltrates a facility ran by Victor Fries Jr. I really like what Scott Snyder has done to the character here in this book. His origins have changed entirely, and it seems that this Mr. Freeze has no need for a suit, at least for now.

Captured and slowly being frozen to death, Bruce Wayne has to quickly come up with a way to escape. Victor has seemingly captured dozens of Gotham City citizens, and all of them are frozen solid. There seems to be a very malicious plan here, however, as we find out that Victor Fries Jr. is taking orders from someone else. But who is this mysterious person?

The encounter between Batman and Victor did not go how I thought it would. This Mr. Freeze isn’t a slow moving man in a giant fridge suit. Scott Snyder has made Victor Fries Jr. agile and powerful in this book, and it seems he’s more than a match for Batman as the fight slowly begins to turn in the villain’s favor.

Negatives

I have no complaints about this issue.

Verdict

Absolute Batman #8 was a good read and a great introduction to a long time Batman villain. I’m eager to see how Victor develops as character in this book, and his future in Absolute Batman. Victor Fries is one of my personal favorites in Batman’s rogue’s gallery.
