Summary

Absolute Batman #9 – The latest development in saving the derelict and despondent of our society is a facility known as Ark M—a fully operational institution that has played a rather sizeable part, on purpose or not, in the creation of evil. And it’s active. So when Bruce tries infiltrate it and distill its secrets, a new villain from Gotham City arrives to deal with the problem…an old adversary of Alfred’s… a man known only as Bane.

Positives

Scott Snyder does a great job of introducing Bane in this issue. Here, we already see the massive villain at work attempting to thwart a peace negotiation between two warring countries. It seems that a powerful figure wants this deal stopped, and Bane is the person that is sent to do so.

Snyder made Bane into an imposing tower of muscle in this book, and that says a lot seeing that Batman in this Absolute universe is insanely huge himself. Here, Bruce’s friend Waylon gets kidnapped, and Batman sets off to find out what happened to his friend.

The encounter between Batman and Bane was epic, and seemingly short. Batman goes toe-to-toe with Bane, and Bane not only defeats him, but does so in an almost humbling fashion.

Negatives

I have no complaints about this issue.

Verdict

Absolute Batman #9 was a good read and I’m eager to see how Batman gets out of this situation. I’ve always been a fan of Bane, and this iteration does not disappoint. Not only is he a tactician, but he’s just as competent as Batman in different fighting styles, and showed Batman just how deadly he is.
