The star of the highly popular Superman origin series, Smallville, addressed rumors about him reprising his roles as the Man of Steel on the CBS series Supergirl.
The series, which centers on Superman’s cousin, has featured brief, blurry cameo appearances of Superman, but showrunners have been reluctant to say one way or another whether they might eventually cast him for the show. Â We already have two former Superpeople on the show, with former Superman Dean Cain playing the adoptive father of Supergirl and former Supergirl Helen Slater playing her adoptive mother. Â So, casting another former Superman in the role of Superman isn’t as far fetched as some may think.
Tom Welling had this to say:
There’s people who would like it, there’s people who don’t like it, but I will tell you that no one has ever asked me to do it. Â So, I don’t know. Â It would be kind of odd. Â I don’t know who he is at that point. Â He would obviously be Superman…
With that being all he said, you can take it a couple of ways. Â Officially it’s not actually a no, but it also doesn’t seem like the producers of the show are chomping at the bit to make it happen. Â Could it happen? Sure, but hold your breath on it.
These same rumors surfaced last year involving CW’s The Flash when reports surfaced that Mark Pedowitz, the head of The CW, teased the appearance during a press meeting, but neither The CW nor any local press could confirm this meeting ever happened.
