In comics, as true fans know, nobody every stays dead. That’s also true for tv shows based on comic book properties and, in the CW Arrowverse, Canaries are particularly hard to kill.
Deadline is reporting today that Katie Cassidy will return as a series regular when Arrow returns for its sixth season next fall. Sadly, her character, Laurel Lance, who went to the big Hall of Justice in the sky at the end of Arrow‘s fourth season, won’t be coming back. Instead, Dateline reports, Cassidy will return as her Earth-2 doppelgänger, Black Siren.
As Siren, Cassidy has appeared on all of the Arrowverse shows, returning for Arrow‘s 100th episode, while also breaking eardrums on The Flash and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.
Here’s the Deadline quote from Arrow executive producer Marc Guggenheim about Cassidy rejoining the cast:
“One of the things that most excites us about Arrow is that we go where the story takes us,” he said. “Last year, the story took us to the tragic death of Laurel Lance. This year, our midseason finale reintroduced us to Laurel’s doppelgänger, Black Siren. We were so taken by Katie’s fearless interpretation of this character that we knew her story was not yet finished. We couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome Katie back to Arrow as Black Siren, though as her appearances on Arrow and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow this season show, she never really left the family.”
Cassidy will re-appear in the 22nd and 23rd episodes of Arrow, set to air May 17 and 24, preparatory to her permanent return in Season 6.
