Batman v Superman cinematographer shares images from the set that provide a glimpse into the magic navigating the mood of the DC Comics universe on the big screen.
Filmmaker Christopher Nolan cornered the majesty of shooting in IMAX with his Dark Knight Trilogy which was among the premiere blockbusters to incorporate the large-than-life filmic experience to audiences. Nolan depended on the expansive presentation to place the film-goer inside some of the movies’ more dynamic moments including the introduction of Heath Ledger’s Joker in The Dark Knight and the masterful escape from a twin-engine place by Bane (Tom Hardy) at the top of The Dark Knight Rises.
With Nolan executive producing the ongoing offerings in the DC Comics Extended Universe, director Zack Snyder took a queue from those particular features and took advantage on the thriving IMAX camera technology to shoot portions of Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. The result can be seen in these just released “test shots” featuring Amy Adams as Lois Lane. Although they appear very tight portraits of the character moving through a cold winter storm, cinematographer Larry Fong demonstrates the perfect mood captured heightening the drama.
IMAX technology is becoming more and more common and as the camera itself becomes a lot more easily manageable, audiences can expect their big screen blockbusters to just get bigger! Christopher Nolan has always intimated that the format is his preferred way of storytelling; the breath of which opens up the world portrayed on screen and many instances “super-sizing” the experience.
