Pied Piper Has Been Cast on CW’s The Flash

With the original announcement that the Pied Piper will be making an appearance on The Flash this season the actor playing that part was never revealed!  TVLine is now reporting that actor Andy Mientus of NBC’s Smash will take up the role of Hartley Rathaway aka the Pied Piper.  Rathaway is a hearing impaired and openly gay villain who is set to appear in the 11th and 12th episodes.

Hartley is described as a genius who worked for Star Labs until a falling out with his mentor Harrison Wells ( Tom Cavanagh). He lost his hearing when the particle accelerator exploded. Following these events he is then inspired to create a series of sonic weapons to destroy Wells’s new protégé The Flash.

In the comics, Pied Piper dates Barry’s boss Director David Singh. With a Detective David Singh set to appear in several episodes, it would be interesting to see if that relationship develops on the show.

The Rogues are coming together pretty quickly! This season Captain Cold, Heatwave, Weather Wizard, and Pied Piper will make their debut with Captain Boomerang making his debut via an Arrow/Flash crossover episode. So, who will round out the Rogues? I’m hoping season 2 will bring Mirror Master and Trickster to complete the team!

Other adversaries I would like to see appear on the show include Abra Kadabra, The Shade, Murmur, Vandal Savage and of course Gorilla Grodd!

The Flash airs on The CW Tuesdays at 8/7c

My love of comics started at the age of 5, when visions of mythic beings fought their way across my TV screen. Batman '66, Super Friends, Wonder Woman, and Superman '78 filled my early childhood with imagination and adventure. Soon enough I found the spinner rack! Batman, Justice League and DC's Who's Who kept me coming back for more. I've seen the death of hope, justice broken, a light extinguished, and a universe torn! A kingdom come, the lightning return, a triumph of evil and a multiverse reborn!
