Summary
“Harley Quinn Destroys DC Continuity” is a Harley Quinn anniversary issue. We’re fifty comics deep into Harley’s comic run and she’s finally destroyed DC continuity. Things were only getting stranger for Harley, and that’s saying something! But things have reached maximum weirdness as Jonni DC, the continuity cop, helps Harley fix the continuity of DC.
After receiving comics from a mysterious M. Clatterbuck, Harley starts reading them with her mom before her ma disappears! Jumping through different continuities the duo race to save everything before it’s too late!
Positives
This is definitely a strange, fun-packed issue with plenty of nods and easter eggs to other characters and comics. It’s a nice filler issue that could only work as a Harley Quinn issue I feel.
I like the new characters that Humphries is bringing into Harley’s life, or at least, re-introducing. Tina of Apokolips is probably one of my favourite characters ever. Harley’s mom is also a fantastic character than I hope we get to see more of in the future.
Negatives
I mean, this is one crazy comic. Everything about it just seems out of place. It reads as a fast-paced horrible jump-cut of a mess.
The artwork doesn’t help this issue any, there are many artists that worked on this comic and it shows. While I understand there’s a demand on pages needed and deadlines, I’d still like a more consistent artist on the issue.
The story doesn’t really make any sense, or have any direction. It’s just a spiral of nonsense that I feel was the creative team’s way of releasing their ideas.
Verdict
Overall, I found this to be quite a disappointing issue of Harley Quinn. Nothing seems to fit quite right in this comic and as much as I love the character, I think the team behind the comic are running out of ideas.
