Last week DC Comics announced the crossover Forever Evil: Blight that will rock the supernatural corner of the DC Universe. On Monday, J.M. DeMatteis revealed new details concerning the upcoming 18-part crossover between Justice League Dark, Phantom Stranger, Pandora, and Constantine. In an interview with Newsarama, the author of both JLD and Stranger shared a fair amount of teasers about what to expect in the crossover related to DC’s universe-wide event Forever Evil.

Two issues into Geoff Johns and David Finch’s epic mini-series, we have seen the seeds planted for how the event will impact the majority of the superhero universe. Clearly characters such as Lex Luthor, Nightwing, Cyborg, and the Teen Titans will be affected by these events. However, until the announcement of Forever Evil: Blight, readers could not be sure of how the event would impact Constantine and Co. in DC’s supernatural realm. According to DeMatteis, the crossover will “be directly related to Forever Evil, but it will be a decidedly supernatural take on the events, as befits these characters.” He went on to say that Blight is a stand-alone story that will have an impact on the larger universe as well as the individual characters.

As for the characters involved, there are quite a few, and some of them are hardly well-known in the vast universe. For example, the recently created Nightmare Nurse will be one of the main characters in JLD. Team members will also include Swamp Thing, Phantom Stranger, and of course Constantine. DeMatteis also revealed that we will be seeing more of both Pandora and The Question, as well as The Spectre, Zauriel, Dr. Thirteen, Chris Esperanza, the remaining Deadly Sins, the recently deceased member of the Crime Syndicate Sea King, and eventually, the Demon Etrigan. Cassandra Craft, a character from older Phantom Stranger tales, will make her first appearance in the New 52 as well.

DeMatteis stated that the story will revolve around  finding the old members of Justice League Dark, especially Zatanna. On the topic of Zatanna, the author said that “one of the things we’ll explore in Forever Evil: Blight is just how far John will go, how much he’ll sacrifice, to bring her home.” Clearly, that will be a main point focused on in the story and presumably the new villain Blight will be a major roadblock that will prevent that from happening.

If all goes well, DC’s crossover event could be a successful story that blends strong character development with an interesting story that ties into the main events of the DC Universe. DeMatteis certainly hopes that the story will be well received by fans. The first chapter of the crossover, JLD #24 , will be released on October 23 and will give fans the first taste of what is to come in the coming months.
