After releasing a series of clues concerning a character reveal over the past few days, developers of the third installment to the Arkham saga officially announced today that Barbara Gordon will be making an appearance in the upcoming prequel game. Gordon, recognizable to comics fans as both Batgirl and the daughter of Police Commissioner James Gordon, will be a teenage girl that will interact with Batman at some point during the game’s story. The reveal was made on the game’s official Instagram account, @BatmanArkham, with this description:
In Batman: Arkham Origins, players are introduced to a teenage girl by the name of Barbara – someone who fans will later come to know as Oracle. As the daughter of police captain James Gordon, Barb meets Gotham’s mysterious masked vigilante for the first time. #ArkhamOrigins
Presumably that interaction will inspire the character affectionately referred to as Babs to one day don the Batsuit and later the headset as Batgirl and then Oracle. While there was no information released about the possibility of playing as Barbara on the Instagram account or on the game’s official website, many fans seem to be excited about the young heroine appearing in the game. Moreover, the appearance of a pre-Oracle Barbara shows fans that the game is making a concerted effort to connect the prequel to the rest of the series.
So what do you think? Are you excited about Barbara’s appearance in the game? Are you pleased with her look? Think she’ll end up donning a Batsuit? The possibilities are endless. Let us know what you think in the comments section and get ready for Arkham Origins coming to a console near you October 25.
