Rose McIver has been cast in the lead role in “iZombie”. Best known for her roles on ABC’s “Once Upon A Time” and “Power Rangers R.P.M.”.
McIver will play Olivia “Liv” Moore, a “med student-turned-zombie who takes a job in the coroner’s office to gain access to the brains she must reluctantly eat to maintain her humanity,” according to The CW’s official description. “But with each brain Liv consumes, she inherits the corpse’s memories. With the help of her medical examiner boss and a police detective, she solves homicide cases in order to quiet the disturbing voices in her head.”
The pilot will be written by “Veronica Mars” creator Rob Thomas and “Veronica Mars” alum Diane Ruggiero.
Also cast in roles are Malcolm Goodwin, Alex (Alexandra) Krosney, David Anders and Robert Buckley as “Clive”, “Peyton”, “Blaine” and “Major” respectively, none of which were in the comic series
Readers of Vertigo’s” iZombie” will point out that the title characters name is “Gwen Dylan” not “Olivia Moore” and she was a gravedigger not a med student.” iZombie” was created by writer Chris Roberson and artist Mike Allred and ran for 28 issues.
From the Comic:
Gwen can pass for a regular girl, but she needs to eat a brain once a month to keep from losing her memories and intelligence. As a gravedigger she has plenty of access to recently deceased people; when she consumes their brains she “inherits” part of the deceased’s thoughts.
The “monsters” in iZOMBIE are explained via the concepts of over- and undersoul. The oversoul is “seated in the brain, contains the thoughts, memories, and personality”,while the undersoul  is “seated in the heart, contains the appetites, emotions and fears”. Ghosts are thus bodiless oversouls; poltergeists, bodiless undersouls; vampires bodies without undersouls (thirsting for emotions); and zombies, bodies without oversouls. Revenants, like Gwen, are unique in that they possess both oversouls and undersouls. Souls can also “infect” the living, which accounts for the possessed and werewolves and the like.
Gwen’s supporting cast are Ellie: a ghost. She died in the 1960s, Scott (“Spot”): a were-terrier and Gavin: Gwen’s brother and Spot’s prospective boyfriend.
