DC Comics is making their return to grocery stores!! Not in the newsstands exactly, but in the version of pack-in prizes of cereal boxes. Depending on your age, you might remember a time when comic books were seen in your local grocery store or corner store in the newsstands or magazine aisle. Got to love nostalgia.
In a partnership with General Mills, DC Comics will appear as a pack-in prize in boxes of Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Lucky Charms, Honey Nut Cheerios, Trix, Cookie Crisp, and Reese’s Puffs. The promotion will be through March and April of this year and will feature comics with the Justice League. These comics are written and drawn by veteran writers and artists such as Joshua Williamson, Dan Jurgens and Norm Rapmund. All the stories are for all ages so expect to see classic versions of your favorite characters all smiling and working together.
The partnership continues online at BigGCerealHeroes.com that includes the continuation of the story and there will also be a fifth available comic at Target. As much of us remember as kids (or still now to this day) eating cereal and playing the games on the back of the boxes, well fear not fans, because you can cut out various items from your favorite superheroes. The back of the boxes include cut outs featuring Batman’s Grappling Hook, Green Lantern’s Mask and Power Ring, Wonder Woman’s bracelets or Cyborg and Superman’s chest emblems.
Do you feel that this is a great or bad promotion? Does it bring you a sense of nostalgia, if you are an older fan who remembers comics in grocery stores? Will you collect all 5 issues? Let us know in the comments section.
