Gotham, the new upcoming series from Fox will include the origin stories of some of the most iconic characters of the Batman mythos. The main plot will be centered around Detective Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie). From advertisements and previews of the show younger versions of Catwoman, The Riddler, The Penguin and Poison Ivy will be apart of the show.

It was announced at San Diego Comic-Con and confirmed by executive producer of the show, Danny Cannon that Mr. Freeze will also have his origin told in the show. Cannon didn’t exactly give any hints or mention how exactly the ice cold villain will be introduced but he did mention this:

My first conversation with Bruno Heller (Gotham’s Show Runner) about the villains in this show is always that they need to be very credible and relatable and the science behind them needs to be real…So I had a couple of stories that I’d held onto — real, true stories — and one of them just related to Mr. Freeze. I know a real way to create an origin story.

Gotham is said to have taken on more of a realistic and believable approaches of introducing these characters and their origin stories. So, with that being said maybe some of the comic book origins of Mr. Freeze could or could not work.

All we can hope with this next on-screen adaptation of Mr. Freeze that it is nothing like its previous version played by Arnold Schwarzenegger. That performance deserves to be left in the ice age. (I had to include at least one pun).1303773674_mr-freeze

No actors have been mentioned about who will play the villain in the show.

Gotham will premiere Monday, September 22nd, @8pm on Fox.
