It’s not often that people think about DC Comics artists and breakfast cereal at the same time, but that is about to change. Jim Lee, artist and co-publisher for DC Comics and other artists from DC Comics have redesigned the iconic characters of General Mills’ Monsters Cereals for the Halloween season.
Jim Lee redesigned Boo Berry, Dave Johnson tackled Franken Berry and finally, Terry and Rachel Dodson took on Count Chocula. Each of the new redesigned packaging will be limited edition for the 2014 Halloween season and feature the new artwork and in addition comic strips on the back of the boxes by Brent Schoonover, Sholly Fisch and Dave McCaig.
The re-design of the classic cereal monsters was a passion project for Lee and the other artists involved. “There are many lifelong fans of Monsters Cereal at DC Entertainment so we were excited when the Monsters team at General Mills reached out to us to help design their packaging,” said Lee. “It’s not Halloween without Monsters, and we hope everyone loves the new designs just as much as we do.”
The cereal boxes will hit select stores this month before nationwide release in September. And this year, select retailers in Canada will also sell limited quantities of Count Chocula and Franken Berry.
