Will Pfeifer and Kenneth Rocafort, the creative team behind the youthful Teen Titans have decided to bring Power Girl into the mix. Tanya Spears, one of the smartest people on earth who inherited her powers from Power Girl just before she returned to Earth-2, will be making her appearance as she joins the team alongside Red Robin, Wonder Girl, Raven, Bunker, and Beast Boy.

In an interview with Newsarama, Pfeifer described that he took an immediate interest with her when she first appeared on the pages of World’s Finest comics. Specifically, Pfeifer said this, reminiscing of his own series HERO that created the kinship he felt with the character:

“I liked her immediately, because I’ve always been a big fan of stories about ordinary people who get super powers and then have to figure out how to deal with them. (My old series HERO was about that same theme in virtually every issue.)”

What also sparked his interest was the fact that this new Power Girl is “a smart young woman in her own right” who was bestowed these powers and name, giving her a great responsibility that she has to live up to. However, because she wants to be a superhero in her own right, this gives her a stronger sense of her identity because she doesn’t want to just be the previous Power Girl, she wants to be her own Power Girl.

As for her infiltration, it’s very clever. Tanya is one of the young women who is following Wonder Girl around, not because she’s a fan but rather because she’s using it as a way to check out the Teen Titans, to watch them before she takes a step to join the team.
