Welcome to DC Comic News Dynamic Cosplay Presents:
Thomas Wayne (Flashpoint/Earth 2)
Cosplayer: Keith Thomas
DCN: What made you choose the Thomas Wayne Batman?
Keith: I chose Thomas Wayne because I feel he’s not a Batman who gets cosplayed a lot to tell the truth. I felt maybe it would be a good way to stand out from the rest! I’m a huge fan of the design and character and I like that he’s a little darker then some of the rest.
DCN: Outside of cosplay do you have any other hobbies/interests?
Keith: Really outside of cosplaying I’d say going to the gym 4 days a week and spending time with my family. Also checking on other cosplayers work, I’m always fascinated with others ideas or different takes on the comic characters I’ve come to love over the years.
DCN: How do your friends and family feel about you cosplaying? Are they supportive?
Keith: My friends and family have always been supportive no matter what, which is a fantastic feeling. Most of my friends share the same interest and hobby as cosplaying, so it’s always interesting to pick each others brains with different costume ideas and get feedback.
DCN: How long have you been cosplaying?
Keith: I’ve been cosplaying now since 2007. I started with horror costumes and horror conventions because although I have a strong respect and passion for comic characters and conventions, horror has always been my number one in life.
DCN: Why do you cosplay?
Keith: I cosplay because I have love for certain characters be it horror or comic and I feel so do other people so when I go to a show and try to bring that character to life, that to me is gratifying.
DCN: What was your favorite cosplay project?
Keith: Hmmmm, My favorite cosplay is hard to pick. I love to cosplay Thomas Wayne for comic or Jason Voorhees (Friday the 13th) from horror, but honestly to pick one is tough do to the fact they all mean something different to me!
DCN: How long did it take you to get this costume together?
Keith: As for how long it took on Thomas Wayne, It didn’t take long honestly because I’m a few years now into comic cosplaying. When I do horror costumes it’s usually a little longer, but like anything once you start it all comes with time.
DCN: Do you have a pet peeve when it comes to cosplay?
Keith: The only pet peeve I have is cosplay bullies. No one has the right to put you down or feel better than other cosplayers, it’s all for fun and to make new friends who have the same interests as you.
DCN: Do you have any cosplays you will never do and why?
Keith: Hmmm, cosplays I never do and why? To be honest I’m always open for suggestions. I really appreciate feedback and opinions from fellow cosplayers, so I wouldn’t say there’s anything I wouldn’t do!
DCN: Why do you think cosplay has become so popular?
Keith: I think its become popular due to the marketing of all the different franchises, comics and movies. Comics people get interested with these iconic heroes and villains and say “hey where can I go to talk to others about this stuff” then they see people walking around in costume and say “I think I can do that too”, honestly it’s just fun!
DCN: What DC Comics character may we see next from you?
Keith: Next on my list is actually a surprise for Baltimore Comic Con which falls on “Batman Day” (Saturday September 26th).
To see what Keith’s surprise coplay costume is check back with DC Comic News for full coverage of Baltimore Comic-Con 2015 September 25-27th.
