DC Comics has announced a ‘Dark Knight Returns’ prequel.
To celebrate the 30th anniversary of ‘The Dark Knight Returns’, DC has announced a one-shot special prequel to the original ‘Dark Knight’ miniseries. DC Co-publisher, Dan DiDio, made the announcement on Saturday at New York Comic Con.
The 48-page issue will be written by Frank Miller and Brian Azzarello and drawn by John Romita Jr.
“So what John’s going to be doing is a 48-page special for February celebrating the 30th anniversary of ‘The Dark Knight,’ which is actually a prequel for ‘The Dark Knight’ book, and then we have plans for John following that.” —Dan DiDio
The announcement came as a surprise to many fans, and even some of the creative team with artist Romita Jr. saying “I just found out right now. I didn’t know it was a prequel.”
‘Dark Knight III’ will be going on a brief hiatus in February after its third issue, and will be replaced with the prequel to mark the 30th anniversary of the original ‘Dark Knight Returns’.
‘Dark Knight III: The Master Race’ comes out December 9.
