Summary

Still trying to find a way back into S.T.A.R. Labs, Cyborg is currently attempting to make a plan with Exxy when suddenly they’re attacked by the tech assassin Fyrewire! Caught completely off guard by Fyrewire’s abilities, Cyborg seems to be close to his end–until Black Narcissus returns!

Positives

We finally get a little backstory into exactly how Black Narcissus came to be, and what motivates her into being a hero. Semper did a great job of showing her reasons for justice, which surprisingly involve the capture of Fyrewire as well. Exxy is always welcome as a relief from all of the action in this issue, and it seems that Cyborg and Black Narcissus will be working together again in the future.

Negatives

I had a small complaint about Fyrewire at first. In his introduction he seems to be at first your typical “villain of the week” type, however his abilities make him more than a threat for Cyborg. I was actually impressed as the book went on about just what exactly this assassin was capable of, and I hope Semper doesn’t immediately write him off–I hope to see him return again at some point.

Verdict

Cyborg #13 is a great read. If you enjoy the interaction between Exxy and Cyborg, you’ll enjoy this issue. We also have plenty of action, a great backstory, and finally the big reveal at the end. It seems that Cyborg may have jumped into something he didn’t expect while attempting to infiltrate S.T.A.R. Labs again. It’s a shame we have to wait until the next issue to see exactly what’s next.
