It certainly is a great time to be a DC fan. With Wonder Woman exceeding expectations and Justice League due to be released in November, what more could we hope for?

Well, three years after Warner Bros. announced it was entering the cinematic universe with DC Films and after some perceived ups and downs, they have officially unveiled their latest slate of DC movies.

They are as follows:

Justice League

Aquaman

Shazam

Suicide Squad 2

The Batman

Justice League Dark

Batgirl

Green Lantern Corps

The Flash: Flashpoint

Wonder Woman 2

It was quite the showing for Warner Bros. at this year’s Comic-Con with plenty of content on show for DC including a new Justice League trailer as well as footage from Aquaman. However, what was most exciting was the list of movies coming post 2018.

Now, although we already had an idea about most of the titles on the list it’s good to know what has been prioritized. We know we have Justice League in November this year, Aquaman in December 2018 and most recently announced Shazam! Which is reportedly scheduled for 2019 so if the slate has been presented in a chronological order (Which has not been confirmed) it’s possible we now know the order in which these movies will be released.

One of the most notable surprises to appear on the list is The Flash: Flashpoint! Now it’s not the news of a Flash movie that is the surprise but rather the story arc Flashpoint (A 2011 event) on which it’s based.

The Flash: Flashpoint

For anyone unfamiliar with Flashpoint it was about Barry Allen, a.k.a. The Flash, traveling back in time to prevent his mother from being killed, only to come back to a present where the world was a twisted version of his normal reality, from Thomas Wayne being Batman to Atlantis and Themyscira embroiled in a war that’s devastated half the globe. That story ended with the DC Comics universe being rebooted for the New 52, so no doubt this theatrical adaptation will present its own unique reality change. Whether the Flashpoint movie is intended to be Justice League 2‘s replacement or a separate epic remains to be seen.

It’s also great to get confirmation on some of the projects that have been rumoured to be in development, such as The Green Lantern Corps, Batgirl and The Batman. I am especially pleased to see follow ups to both Suicide Squad and the awesome Wonder Woman but there are a few noticeable absences from the list like Nightwing, Gotham City Sirens, Black Adam, Cyborg and most noticeable for me a follow-up to Man of Steel!

With any luck, these movies are still on the cards and following on sooner rather than later.
