The latest teaser trailer for The CW’s Supergirl shows Kara Zor-El’s world is in no way slowing down nor getting any easier.

Chronologically it has been three months since the Season 2 finale in which Kara (Melissa Benoist) had to forcibly send her Daxamite beau, Mon-El (Chris Wood), off-world due to the atmosphere contaminated by lead, thanks to Lillian Luthor’s machinations. This has contributed to a possible identity crisis; Kara sees her superhero identity defining her more so than her human guise of Kara Danvers ever did. While there are hints about the trailer of National City honoring her with a silver statue – much in the way Metropolis had honored her cousin in the classic “Death of Superman” story – the dangers that plague her town have only escalated.

In her personal life, Lena Luthor (Katie McGrath) drops a line about how she can tell when someone is lying to her, and there’s no reason not to be honest. As to whether it is aimed at her best friend, Kara, that is unknown. However, given that Kara storms off taking off her glasses when Lena and company are in the same vicinity, it leads one to wonder how close is Lex’s little sister to figuring out the truth. Further, will the revelation drive Lena down her own path to darkness?

In the meantime, Kara and the DEO has a new threat to deal with in the form of Robert DuBois, also known as Bloodsport. In the comics, Bloodsport was originally a Superman enemy – following the pattern adopted by the series for baddies Mxyzsptlk, Metallo, Parasite, Cadmus, and others – who becomes unhinged after learning about his brother’s fate as a double amputee during his tour of duty in Vientam. An employee of Lex Luthor convinces him Superman is the enemy and equips him with kryptonite bullets in his arsenal of hi-tech weaponry. As to whether this version of DuBois is motivated by the Daxamite invasion of last year and employed by Lillian remains to be seen.

This season will also follow the progression of the relationship between Alex Danvers (Chyler Leigh) and Maggie Sawyer (Floriana Lima) following Alex’s wedding proposal in the finale. Further, Kara’s human family will have an expanded role in the upcoming crossover event involving Arrow, The Flash, and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.

Catch the season premiere of Supergirl Monday October 9th on The CW at 8 Eastern, 7 Central.
