It has been a month since the announcement that The Joker origin movie will be directed by The Hangover director Todd Philips and now it seems that the director has been busy for a while working on a script, which will be given to Warner Bros. next week according to a tweet by Variety reporter Justin Kroll. And if Warner Bros. likes the script, the film will be given a green light and would start production as soon as next year.
Todd Philips is expected to direct The Joker, which he and 8 Mile writer Scott Silver wrote. Also Martin Scorsese is expected to accompany them as producer, which has led to rumors that Warner Bros. would like to use his connections to convince Leonardo DiCaprio to play as the titular character.
The Joker will not be connected to the DC Extended Universe, but instead will promote a new brand for DC Comics within Warner Bros. Studio. Jared Leto will continue to play as The Clown Prince of Crime in the DCEU and is rumored to return in his standalone film with Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn.
Stay tuned for more news on all things Joker and DC Comics as they come out.
