The Flash is back for its fourth season, promising to bring with it a much lighter tone and an expanded group of characters.
Many of these characters said to be making the jump from the comic books to the small screen include; Breacher, Hazard, The Thinker, The Mechanic (the latter two of course already being teased in the previous episode), and The Elongated Man. When these characters will make their full debuts is unknown…except now for one.
The CW has released the synopsis for episode 4 of The Flash’s fourth season entitled ‘Elongated Journey into Night’ which will premiere on October 31st and introduce the Elongated Man into the Arrowverse.
Cisco (Carlos Valdes) is shocked when Gypsy’s (guest star Jessica Camacho) father, Breacher (guest star Danny Trejo), shows up on Earth-1. Breacher takes an immediate disliking to Cisco and decides to hunt him. Meanwhile, Barry (Grant Gustin) runs into his old nemesis, Ralph Dibny (guest star Hartley Sawyer).
We can assume that from this synopsis Ralph Dibney will already have his powers when he’s introduced and possibly come with some changes to his back story, pitting him against Barry as former rivals.
If you recall, Dibny was listed as dead following the explosion of the Particle Accelerator in season one, so the obvious assumption is that his return will link back to this moment and the awakening of his new-found powers.
The Elongated Man was first introduced in the comics back in the 1960s as a villain in The Flash #112 but was later redeemed as a hero.
Another really cool addition to the cast as mentioned in the synopsis is the introduction of Danny Trejo as Breacher. I’m a big Trejo fan and have to say I’m very excited to see his character on the show and I’m excepting some really cool interactions between his character (Breacher) and Cisco.
The episode ‘Elongated Journey into Night’ will also be directed by Tom Cavanagh (the many Harrison Wellses of the show) and feature the return of Gypsy and the debut of her father Breacher (Danny Trejo). And like Dibny and Barry, Breacher and Cisco won’t get along at first. Hopefully, these new characters and dynamics will help to bolster The Flash.
