After a lengthy casting process, child actor Asher Angel is moving along with the slow pre-production process for Shazam! with principal photography scheduled to begin in February.
Warner Bros. confirms that production will officially begin following the completion of Principal Photography on Aquaman starring Jason Momoa. Angel plays young Billy Batson, who is given the ability to transform into the godlike adult hero Shazam, played by Zachary Levi. Rounding out the ensemble are supporting cast members Ian Chen, Grace Fulton, Jovan Armand, Cooper Andrews, and Jack Dylan Grazer. Mark Strong – formerly Sinestro in the much-maligned 2011 Green Lantern – is long rumored to portray Shazam’s human antagonist, Dr. Thaddeus Sivana, but no official announcement has been discussed.
Angel has been reported to have dropped into DC Films to discuss progress as casting continues. Although he posted two photos on his Instagram account, neither confirmed the nature of the meeting.
