It’s taken 80 years, but Siegel and Shuster’s immortal creation’s adventures in Action Comics has finally reached a landmark 1000 issues!

Besides offering a newly redesigned costume that combines classic elements of Superman’s uniform – the red trunks, for example, are back – with contemporary accents, it’s not just one story. Further, it’s more than just one art team.

Hitting the stands on April 15, the book will include work by series writer (and sometimes artist) Dan Jurgens, and by Superman’s creative team of writers Pat Gleason and Peter Tomasi, who also provides art.

Newly-arrived writer Brian Michael Bendis (Alias, Ultimate Spider-Man, Brilliant, Daredevil) will provide a ten-page plot with pencils provided by DC legend Jim Lee. But the celebration doesn’t stop there, as additional stories will be provided by the following legendary collaborators:

Richard Donner, Geoff Johns, and Oliver Coipel;

Paul Dini and Jose Luiz Garcia-Lopez;

Brad Meltzer, John Cassaday, and Laura Martin;

Louise Simonson and Jerry Ordway;

Tom King, Clay Mann, and Jordi Bellaire;

Scott Snyder and Tim Sale.

While the full list of collaborators has yet to be compiled, there will also be a special treat for fans young and old: Legendary Teen Titans writer Marv Wolfman will provide a story with unpublished art by the immortal Superman artist, the late Curt Swan!

There will also be a hardcover companion title edited by former DC publisher, Paul Levitz. Plus every title released for the month of April will have a Superman-themed variant cover available for purchase.

So, be sure to pick up this once in a lifetime issue as soon as it hits stands.
