The team behind DC’s streaming service series, Doom Patrol, is reportedly eying Kelsey Grammer for it’s lead role. The series is set to follow Titans, which is scheduled for release later this year. No casting announcements have yet been made, however it is believed Grammer is wanted for the shows lead.
According to The Hashtag show, Grammer is the creative team’s choice for the role of Dr Niles Caulder, also known as The Chief, a character described as “eccentric, brilliant, paternal, and mysterious”
The full description is as follows:
“The Chief is a noted scientist, wealthy investor and, of course, leader of The Doom Patrol. The Chief rescued each member of his team from horrific accidents, nurtured them to health, resuscitated their self-esteem and sent them into the world to defend a populace that sees them as little more than freaks. His disarming manner does little to conceal a steely determination and unwavering devotion to defending Earth from Evil’s oddest entities.”
With filming currently taking place for Titans, Grammer or whomever is cast, could be potentially be introduced on the show. With each series already connected within the same universe and a confirmed appearance of Elasti-Girl in episode 5, its conceivable that Dr Niles Caulder could appear. This appearance could even act as a launching pad for the Doom Patrol series itself.
To date there has been no official casting news. Although the created team behind the show are eying Grammer, nothing is confirmed, so the role may very well end up being given to a completely different actor.
Grammer would un-questionably be a huge draw for the show. His next film, Like Father, co-staring Kristen Bell and Seth Rogen hits Netflix this August. The actor has several projects in the works so a role like Dr Niles Caulder would make a great addition to his resume while his casting would be a huge win for the show.
