Early on, it was talked about that Ron Cephas Jones (This Is Us) would play The Wizard in the upcoming Shazam! film. Apparently, those talks didn’t work out. Now, according to Entertainment Weekly, Jones ran into a scheduling conflict with has now lead to Guardians of The Galaxy star, Djimon Hounsou, to play the character.
In the comics, The Wizard is the one who gives Billy Batson the magical powers to transform into the adult superhero we know by yelling “Shazam!”. The Wizard also gave powers to Black Adam, who we will see in a future film starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.
With the rumors abound with what the Warner Bros. panel will hold, we may get to see our first look of Hounsou as The Wizard next week at SDCC.
We’ll just have to wait and find out!
