DC’s ever-changing film slate is something that is discussed by fans on a daily basis.  Whether it’s news of a director signing on, a release date being set, or an interesting bit of casting news, you can always rely on something dropping within the news cycle.
However, today I wanted to do something a little bit different.  I was recently pointed toward an actress by the name of Amber Myers who had started a campaign to take on the role of Batgirl in the upcoming film, currently being written by Christina Hodson, and this intrigued me.
So many times we hear of already established celebrities jockeying for these types of roles (Give it up, Tyrese.  You’re not going to be a Green Lantern.), but when my attention was turned to an unknown, I knew I had to find out more.  I’m a huge proponent of bringing in new faces to these huge franchises, as these are the perfect vehicles to kick start a career.  So I reached out to Amber for an interview and she humbly agreed.  So, here it is.  Please enjoy!
DC COMICS NEWS:  Hi Amber! Thank you for taking the time to talk with me. I’d like to start off by giving our fans a sense of who you are. So, tell me, where are from originally?
AMBER MYERS:  Hi! I am originally from Pennsylvania. I moved to California at 18 years old to go to acting school.
DCN:  Going from Pennsylvania to California must’ve been quite the change. Tell us a little about that transition. Was it difficult?
AM:  It was a HUGE change. A change that I was very thankful for. I got to meet people from all over the world, learn new cultures and taste delicious food. The only difficult part was leaving my family. I’m a big family person.
DCN:  What attracted you to begin a career in acting?
AM:  My father was a performer, so I grew up always dancing and singing, but then in high school I took acting classes and started to enjoy telling stories to other people and making them forget all the negativity happening in their lives.
DCN:  What was the first thing you ever acted in?
AM:  I can’t really remember… I know I was a mouse for my elementary school’s play and I did some independent short films before I went to acting school.
DCN:  What would you consider your greatest accomplishment as an actor, so far?
AM:  My greatest accomplishment so far would have to be graduating with my BFA in performing arts this past June. It was extremely hard and tedious, but I learned so much!
DCN:  I know that you had a role in The Fault In Our Stars. What was that experience like?
AM:  It was so much fun! Everyone was lovely. I was just a small part, but I’m so thankful for it.
DCN:  You’ve been campaigning pretty hard for the role of Batgirl in the upcoming DC film. What is it about this character that you’re drawn to?
AM:  I absolutely love Batgirl, I think she’s young and spunky. I also admire how she has no real powers and yet she’s still so powerful.
DCN:  What do you think you could uniquely bring to this role?
AM:  Gosh, so many things honestly. I feel like having a new face in the industry would be awesome, I already know some stage combat and I think it would be nice to have a curvy actress as Batgirl!
DCN:  Were you a big comic book fan before this? If so, who are your favorite characters?
AM:  Oh yes, well growing up my mom’s favorite was always Batman, so I most definitely took after her. I love Batman, however, as I get older I’m really starting to enjoy the villains in comics. I really like how crazy they are.
DCN:  Villains, huh? Who’s your favorite? And would you ever want to play one? If so, who would you choose?
AM:  HARLEY QUINN!!! Even though I would love to play her, Margot Robbie is the greatest at that role. She is beyond talented!
DCN:  Are there any new projects on the horizon you’d like to tell our fans about?
AM:  I am currently auditioning for shows and continuing to attend acting classes after graduation. I really believe you can never learn to much with acting.
DCN:  Awesome!  Thank you again for taking the time to talk with me, and good luck!
AM:  Thank YOU for taking the time for this interview. It was fun!
