Dr. Niles Caulder will be leading The Doom Patrol!
The wheel chair-bound scientist who leads the team will be portrayed by veteran actor Timothy Dalton. Dalton, who is no stranger to the pop culture field and has been featured in such high profile projects as James Bond, Doctor Who, and Wuthering Heights, will bring to life the team’s eccentric leader.
DC Comics has released a description of the shows good doctor stating: Dr. Caulder is a pioneer in medical science, searching the world over for those on the edge of death in need of a miracle. Brilliant, but controversial, Dr. Caulder will stop at nothing to help those he believes are in need, including his collection of strange heroes known as The Doom Patrol.
Famously, Grant Morrison’s run of The Doom Patrol pitted Caulder against the team in an attempt to destroy the human race and restart it in his own image. A sentiment some of the team shared as the appearance that makes them special also makes them outcasts. We know little of the show itself or what story lines will be picked up to bring the characters to life, but the description does hint that Morrison’s iconic run may be a major influence.
While Dalton is a welcomed addition with much acclaim, the star-studded cast already has much to bolster. Last week Alan Tudyk was cast as Mr. Nobody, which followed the news that Brendan Fraser would be voicing Robotman as well as playing Cliff Steele, his pre-robot, human identity. Also, recently cast were Joivan Wade as Cyborg, April Bowlby as Elasti-Woman and Diane Guerrero as Crazy Jane.
Do you think Dalton is the right pick for the role? Who else would you like to see cast for this series? Are you excited for Doom Patrol? Let us know in the comments!
