Rumors of a Superman cameo in the upcoming Shazam! movie have been running wild for some time now and recently it appears as if those rumors are now a fact.
Last year, it was said that Henry Cavill would show up at the end of Shazam! in order to tie the movie into the rest of the DCEU and become DC’s answer to Nick Fury in the MCU. However, the on-going drama between Cavill and Warner Bros. has led this cameo in another direction.
Recently, we’ve all been hearing that both Cavill and the WB are very interested in making another Superman movie, but it seems as if Cavill has some demands in order to make another solo Superman flick a reality. Â Cavill has made it clear that he wants approval of the studio’s choice of director and the script. Â Cavill also wants producer credit on the movie.
Despite the on-going drama between Cavill and the WB it now seems that the studio will, in fact, have Superman make the long rumored cameo in Shazam! just not in the way DC fans expect.
According to We Got This Covered, the “Last Son of Krypton” and his appearance in Shazam! will come at the end of the movie, possibly a post-credits scene. Â It’s rumored that throughout the movie, Billy Batson’s superhero-obsessed foster brother, Freddy Freeman, will continue to ask Billy to show up at his school as Shazam in order for Freddy to prove to all of his classmates that he in fact does know Shazam. Â Rumor has it that during the scene, Superman will walk into Freddy’s classroom, not Shazam, and make his long rumored cameo a reality.
But not so fast, as I stated earlier, Cavill and the studio are still at odds over his future as Superman. Â In the cameo scene, the studio will not show the Man of Steel’s face and instead use a body double to play Superman and not use Henry Cavill in the movie at all.
So yes, we are getting a Superman cameo in Shazam! but no, it will not be Henry Cavill as Superman. Â As the future surrounding Henry Cavill in the DCEU is still uncertain we will get Shazam! in theaters on April 5th, 2019.
