Finally, action from the set of Shazam!

We’ve seen Zachary Levi’s portrayal of The World’s Mightiest Mortal in Big Red Cheese fashion up till now: A kid in an adult body enjoying the perks of being a grown up and a superhero. From requesting a store’s finest beer to negotiating the purchase of “a lair,” clips and photos from Shazam! have shown the immature fun experienced by the character of the same name.

Now Empire Magazine online posted the first action photo featuring Shazam amongst debris at an amusement park, chest symbol lit up, presumably from a brawl with main antagonist Dr. Thaddeus Sivanna (Mark Strong).

Shazam! is the origin story of orphan Billy Batson (Asher Angel) empowered by an ancient wizard of the same name to carry on his crusade against crime and the forces of evil. By saying the Wizard’s name – an acronym for Solomon (wisdom), Hercules (strength), Atlas (stamina), Zeus (power), Achilles (courage), and Mercury (speed) – a bolt of lightning transforms him into a superpowered adult. Only by saying the Wizard’s name again can he change back in the same fashion. The script takes influence from C.C. Beck’s original Golden Age creation – Captain Marvel, as he was called before Flashpoint – and producer Geoff John’s New 52 reboot with artist Gary Frank.

Shazam! premieres April 19th, 2019.
