Your time is up, his time is now. And you can certainly see him in the next Suicide Squad. WWE Superstar and actor John Cena is reportedly being considered for a role in the next Suicide Squad film. The news comes on the heels of the announcement of Idris Elba joining the cast as an unknown character (cough cough Bronze Tiger please?) instead of replacing Will Smith’s Deadshot. As this time there is only speculation as to what characters Cena and Elba will play. According to Variety, Warner Bros. has no comment on the news.

The film is expected to go into production this fall under the direction of James Gunn who is also writing the script. The film will mark Cena’s first comic book role (even though many fans wanted to see him cast as Shazam opposite of Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s Black Adam). It has been revealed through Twitter that the role was originally meant for Bautista, but due to scheduling conflicts, he could not accept the role.

Cena is currently involved in many different productions including The Janson Directive with Dwayne Johnson, Playing With Fire, and Universal’s The Voyage of Dr. Dolittle. All that is certain about the film so far is Margot Robbie will be returning as Harley Quinn and Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang.

The film is set to be released on August 6th, 2021.
