New Joker Trailer Has Arrived!

The latest trailer for Todd Phillips’ gritty, character-centric take on the Clown Prince of Crime, Joker, has finally arrived… and it is fantastic! Take a look at the Joker trailer below:

In this Joker trailer, Arthur Fleck (I still can’t get over the fact that they named him A. Fleck… Affleck lol) starts off as a seemingly normal guy, playing peekaboo with a little kid on a bus, but we quickly learn that this city doesn’t care about him one little bit, whether it’s the mom on the bus, his obviously ineffective therapist, or Murray Franklin (Robert De Niro), the late night host who embarrasses him on television for the world to see. This clearly sets him on a dark path toward his ultimate fate… as the Joker.

Oh, and that laugh is incredible!

This trailer comes just days after a cryptic set of mini teasers secretly revealed the trailer’s release date. This was a brilliant way to get the word out in the most “Joker-ish” fashion. You can see the mini teasers over on Todd Phillips’ Instagram account, but it’s what happens when you freeze frame and put certain scenes together that really got me.

This is simply brilliant marketing!

Set in 1981, Joker follows Arthur Fleck, a failed stand-up comedian who is driven insane and turns to a life of crime and chaos in Gotham City. Academy Award nominee Joaquin Phoenix stars in Joker as the titular villain, with The Hangover director Todd Phillips behind the camera. Phoenix is joined by the likes of Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, Marc Maron, Frances Conroy, and Brett Cullen.

This is DC’s first standalone story since they started the DCEU, and will not be connected in any way. It was recently confirmed that Joker would be rated R for “strong bloody violence, disturbing behavior, language and brief sexual images”.

Joker will hit the festival circuit leading up to its theatrical release on October 4, 2019. Let us know what you thought of the new Joker trailer and whether or not you’re excited for this film to come out!
