We already got a peek at The Batman thanks to some on-set photos from the UK. Now comes news that the movie’s filming won’t be restricted to London: Glasgow, Scotland will apparently be standing in for Gotham City.
The UK newspaper the Daily Record broke the news, but no one knows for sure where — and for how long — the production will be located there. Glasgow’s gothic architecture is apparently what director Matt Reeves and his design team had in mind for Gotham.
Glasgow won’t be the first time a real life location will stand in for Batman’s hometown. Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy used Pittsburgh, in contrast to the entirely stage-bound city Anton Furst designed for Tim Burton’s Batman films.
The Batman, starring Robert Pattinson, Jeffrey Wright, Zoe Kravitz, Paul Dano, Colin Farrell, and Andy Serkis is expected sometime in 2021.
