Aquaman Animated Series Announced for HBO Max

With the launch of HBO Max about 4 months away the news surrounding the upcoming streaming service is only heating up.

HBO released an announcement on Wednesday that the company has greenlit a brand-new, three-part animated series surrounding Arthur Curry aka Aquaman entitled, Aquaman: King of Atlantis for HBO Max.

The series will be produced by James Wan who directed the 2018 live-action, billion-dollar Aquaman film will serve as executive producer of the series under his production company, Atomic Monster.

The series will also see Michael Clear (Annabelle Comes Home), Sam Register (Teen Titans Go!), Rob Hackett (Swamp Thing) serve as executive producers with Marly Halpern-Graser (Batman vs Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) and Victor Courtright (ThunderCats Roar!) serving as the showrunners.

They synopsis of Aquaman: King of Atlantis is as followed:

“Produced by Warner Bros Animation, the series begins with Aquaman’s first day on the job as king of Atlantis and he’s got A LOT of catching up to do.  Luckily, he has his two royal advisors to back him up-Vulko, the scholar, and Mera, the water controlling warrior-princess.  Between dealing with unscrupulous surface dwellers, elder evils from beyond time and his own half-brother who wants to overthrow him, Aquaman is going to have to rise to the challenge and prove to his subjects, and to himself, that he’s the right man for the trident!”

There is no word on if Jason Momoa will lend his voice to the show but there should be no surprises if the movie cast does the character voices since it is a story about Aquaman produced by James Wan.

At the WarnerMedia Television Critics Association day, Sarah Aubrey, who is head of original content for HBO Max said:

“This DC property is a fan-favorite rich with well-known characters and dynamic storylines.  On the heels of Warner Bros Pictures’ box office smash hit, we are certain Aquaman: King of Atlantis will be an exciting addition to our already robust slate of kids and family programming.”

Adding Aquaman: King of Atlantis to the already stellar line-up of Looney Toons Cartoons, Jellystone, Adventure Time, Distant Lands, Rick and Morty, The Boondocks and the newly announced Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai makes HBO Max a “must have” as far as streaming content and serious competition to Disney+
