Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman Becomes New Audible Series
Multiple news outlets including the Hollywood Reporter have posted that Neil Gaiman will executive produce and narrate a new drama based on his groundbreaking Vertigo series that premiered over thirty years ago.
Gaiman will also serve as a creative director on the new audio adaptation that he co-created with Sam Kieth and Mike Dringenberg. There’s no word on the involvement of the latter two names, but Gaiman is the sole credited writer for the entire series.
In a quote given to the Hollywood Reporter, Gaiman states:
“Almost 30 years ago, Dirk Maggs approached DC about adapting The Sandman inyo audio form. I’m glad it didn’t happen, because we are in a Golden Age of audio drama right now, and Dirk and I are much better at what we are doing. This is a rich audio adaptation of the Sandman graphic novels, brilliantly crafted by Dirk Maggs, with an all-star cast.”
“Audible prides itself on creating and producing immersive and entertaining storytelling, and the exclusive audio production of Neil Gaiman’s legendary comic book series marks a thrilling addition to our original content offerings,” added Audible Originals editor-in-chief Dave Blum. “We’re excited to join Neil and DC in bringing this extraordinary and beloved universe to Audible’s millions of listeners worldwide, for the very first time.”
Dirk Maggs is highly regarded in the audio book industry, creating many highly regarded productions based on original and existing works, such as Douglas Adams The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.
The music of the series will be composed by James Hannigan, a five-time BAFTA nominee.
Upon its summer launch the series will be available in English, with many other languages like Spanish, Italian, German and French being added after.
