The role of the Penguin has already seen some excellent portrayals on-screen. Danny DeVito (Batman Returns) and Robin Lord Taylor (Gotham) have both given unique and iconic performances of the character. Penguin is seen as one of Batman’s more well-known Villains and, despite his appearance, one who should be taken very seriously. Farrell is the next up to give his take on Oswald Cobblepot in the upcoming film The Batman. Starring alongside Robert Pattinson (The Twilight Saga) as the dark knight and directed by Matt Reeves (Let Me In, War for the Planet of the Apes), the film is due for release on 4th March 2022.

Farrell to Reprise Role?

Reports coming out now are suggesting that this won’t be the last we see of the iconic Batman villain. According to Variety, Farrell will be reprising his role and will executive produce the series spin-off. The rumored project will allegedly take a closer look at the penguin’s origin story and rise to power. Colin Farrell is known for films including The Lobster, In Bruges, and Seven Psychopaths. Working alongside Farrell on the series would be scriptwriter Lauren LeFranc (Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D and Chuck).

This new direction for DC of spin-off TV series is extremely exciting. We’re all aware of the upcoming Peacemaker show which will follow on from The Suicide Squad and HBO Max has confirmed they intend to produce a Green Lantern Corps series as well.

There are solid reports of a show focusing around the Gotham City Police Department all over the web. If these are true it would appear DC and Warner Bros are set on building their own “Bat-verse”. This will encompass the big and small screens, and hopefully, really help flesh out Gotham City and Batman’s rogues’ gallery to depths never seen before.
