General Zod and Faora make their return to the DCEU in The Flash, reports confirm.
As part of Warner Studios’ 2022 Preview Kit on their site, the return of Michael Shannon and Anjte Traue to the DCEU is the latest addition to Barry Allen’s time-altering adventuure. Shannon and Traue made their debuts as General Zod and Faora, respectively, in Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel. Put on trial for a failed takeover on Krypton and sentenced to the Phantom Zone, they and their followers escaped. Three decades later, they tracked the ship of the infant Superman (Henry Cavill) to Earth and attempted to terraform the planet into a new Krypton. While Faora was presumably killed when she and other Kryptonian insurgents were sent into the Phantom Zone without protection, Superman was forced to snap Zod’s neck in the final act. Shannon did not return in Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice, but Zod’s corpse was repurposed by Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) as the genetic foundation for his creation of Doomsday.
General Zod And Faora In “The Flash” – HOW?!? And WHO ELSE?!
With the inclusion of now three Snyderverse cast members – Ben Affleck reprises his role as Bruce Wayne/Batman – the DCEU now has some renewed breath. In fact, Wonder Woman actress Gal Gadot is rumored to have an upcoming cameo in Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam.
The plausibility has to do with the path The Fastest Man Alive will run in this film. The Flash is loosely based on the Geoff Johns-Andy Kubert graphic novel Flashpoint, in which Barry Allen/The Flash travels back in time to prevent his mother’s murder and inadvertently alters the timeline, allowing for alternate versions of his Justice League teammates to exist. Ezra Miller’s first solo outing as The Scarlet Speedster is audiences’ introduction to the concept of The Multiverse through the changes his Barry Allen causes. This alteration allows for the return of Michael Keaton’s 1989 Batman and introduces Sasha Calle as Supergirl in the place of Superman. As evident in the teaser, there is also another Barry Allen with Supergirl and the original Flash in the Batcave. Given these changes, it therefore allows for the possibility of Zod and Faora having different fates. There is also a rumor that Grant Gustin from The CW’s The Flash TV series will make a cameo as well. Miller did two years ago in the Arrowverse adaptation of Crisis On Infinite Earths.
With these connections, The Flash is primed to make every live-action adaptation of DC’s trademark heroes legitimately canon as just separate dimensions. This means, for example, Lynda Carter’s Wonder Woman is just a different reality, as are the Christopher Reeve Superman films. Even Matt Reeves’s upcoming The Batman and Joaquin Phoenix’s Oscar-winning Joker can be considered canon. While Wonder Woman, the Shazam! and Aquaman franchises remain as the only connected Snyderverse properties, Zack’s four-hour cut of Justice League on HBO has renewed interest of the foundation the filmmaker had laid. Henry Cavill has also gone on record by saying he is not done yet with Superman and is eager to return. However, given everything is now canon, we may have two men of steel on the big screen as Michael B. Jordan is also rumored to be attached to a Superman property of his own.
Also starring Kiersey Clemons as Iris West, The Flash speeds into theaters.
