It’s hard keeping up to date with all the latest Shazam! Fury of the Gods news. DC has quite a few big releases scheduled for 2022. Some huge names are lined up (Michael Keaton reprising his role in The Flash) and all the hype surrounding the release of The Batman has taken a lot of focus. We now have hints from Zegler about Shazam 2 that another big star will be making an appearance in the sequel. With a cast already consisting of Helen Mirren (Hespera) and Lucy Liu (Kalypso), we now have news of a familiar face to DC fans making their return.
Although we don’t as yet know the role of Rachel Zegler in Shazam 2, recently in an interview for her upcoming live-action project of Snow White with Empire magazine she seemingly let some information slip. The implication that was made could imply we will be seeing Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman. Gadot is also appearing in Snow White alongside Zegler and when asked about working with her, Zegler said:
I’m not going to say much, but [filming Snow White] wasn’t our first meeting.
Obviously, this isn’t confirmation, but looking back at Zegler’s previous work there doesn’t appear to have been an obvious link between the two. Certainly not one she would feel the need to be secretive about. What also feeds into the belief behind this rumor is that out of the existing DCEU cast, Gadot’s Wonder Woman probably makes the most sense to appear in Shazam 2 alongside Zegler.
DC’s release date changes
Shazam! Fury of the Gods was among the DC Movies that have had their release date changed in DC’s latest re-shuffle. However in contradiction to other projects like DC League of Super-Pets, Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom, and The Flash, Shazam! FotG has actually been moved up rather than delayed. Originally solicited for a June 2023 release and now we are expecting it to be December 2022.
