The next comic-book-turned-live-action movie will be The Kitchen from Vertigo Comics. The Kitchen is about three mob wives that turn into mobsters themselves in New York during the 1970s. Their husbands are top ranking members of the Irish mafia that get arrested and their wives take it upon themselves to carry on the family business.
The film is being written and directed by Oscar-nominated screenwriter Andrea Berloff. Berloff recently commented about hiring comedic actors for the roles:
I wanted that excitement of women in a Mob movie to permeate through the casting, so I cast people you wouldn’t expect across the board. If we’re defying stereotypes, let’s defy them all over. Who says women can’t run the Mafia? Who says comedians can’t do drama?
