Review: Lois Lane #10

Summary
Armed with new information about the assassin stalking her, Lois goes on the offensive, while Renee struggles with wielding what may be the most powerful weapon of them all: the truth.
Positives
I love the cover by Mike Perkins. The Kiss of Death’s face with the targets in her eyes is a great choice. I love the color scheme; it’s looks cool.
Perkins’ interior art is also fantastic. The use of shadows is great and Andy Troy’s colors are gorgeous. I love the style of this art.
Greg Rucka writes Superman well. He’s so charming and fun. The scene between Lois and Clark is the highlight of the issue.
I like that there are consequences to the constant rebooting of the DC universe and all the timeline changes. Jessica Midnight, and others, kind of remember other lives. It might be in dreams or other strange moments but there are times when the different timelines cross even briefly. It’s a fun idea for the universe and could be interesting.
Negatives
Suddenly, this is a story about the multiverse. It’s dealing with the fallout of Rebirth and the fact that this Lois is from a different version of the DC Universe. I thought everyone’s memory had been changed so that they thought they were all from the same timeline but maybe Lois was exempt from that. It’s just weird that this noir investigative thriller is suddenly dealing with the multiverse.
There’s also a several page long explanation of the multiverse. The art in these pages is phenomenal. But I think it’s unnecessary and takes up a lot of space. If someone is reading a Lois Lane maxi series, they’re more than likely going to understand the idea of a multiverse. One double page spread would have been enough.
Verdict
This issue is fine. The art is incredible; I love Perkins’ style and Troy compliments it well. There are some fun ideas and Rucka is a talented writer. He knows how to make these characters compelling. But the story lost me a while ago and this issue doesn’t do anything to bring me back in. I think it’s ballooned too big and I don’t think it’s nearly as interesting as the early issues.
