Summary

Home #4 is upon us and the revelations just keep coming.  Last issue was a massive tear jerker. We watched as Mercedes suffered all on her own, grieving the son she had to part with, leaving him with Gladys to learn his powers as his Father did before him. But Gladys was hiding a secret of her own, and as they were found by the local cops, her powers kicked in to save them.  That is where we drop in on them at the beginning of this issue, so let’s join them, eh?

There Are No Secrets That Time Does Not Reveal

Gladys may have gotten her and Juan to safety, but they are now on the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Houston Field Office radar. They have been following Juan and charting his powers to the best of their abilities. They see him as a threat, and with other terrorists using their powers like his, their fear is not entirely unfounded. 

Gladys and Juan thought they were safe enough for life to resume. Gladys chancing a day back at work and Juan entertaining himself at the apartment. Switching between all the inane activities works for a bit, but when he sees some kids playing soccer, he takes the chance to join them.  But one thing happens after another and suddenly Juan has the ICE agents there at Gladys’ apartment. Time to rally the family.

Positives

The pacing for the Home series has been masterful as we learn about Juan and his family. Home #4 is a great time for that as we are getting deeper into the story. Readers get to see just how heroic Juan’s dad was and what he stood for. It is just one of the hard hitting notes that not only does this series hit on, but is known for in the series. My anger seethed reading the first few pages as the ICE team discussed Juan in termination terms. 

Brava to the writing and the art team for continuing to show us excellence. 

Negatives

I couldn’t come up with any even if I tried hard to. Frankly I don’t want to try that hard so…none!

Verdict

Home #4 is about voices that speak to us in all facets of life. The ones who show us who we are and who we are meant to be. A work that is able to achieve an emotional connection is one that deserves praise, and humbly, Home is one that deserves all it is getting.
