Rumors and theories about the mysterious “desert scene” from the upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice have been popping up for months, with no definitive answer. Well, it seems those rumors and theories can be put to rest.
In an article in the latest issue of Empire Magazine, it has been confirmed that these scenes are indeed a dream sequence had by Bruce. However, with no actual mention of Darkseid (his symbol was spotted in a recently released still image) or his Parademons (who showed up in the latest trailer), we are still unsure as to why Bruce Wayne would be having nightmares about them.
Empire goes on to confirm that it takes place in the fictional nation of Kandahar, with “Batman…shouldering a machine gun, walks unbowed through the blizzard to greet an armoured juggernaut pulling up in a desert compound that’s walled with rusty containers.” They also describe the entire sequence as “pure Mad Max“, but don’t shed any light on what Darkseid might have to do with it or why Bruce might be having these dreams (premonitions?) of his impending arrival on Earth.
Executive Producer Deborah Snyder also confirmed to Empire that, “Batman’s voice is digitally altered by the cowl,” which is pretty much what we all suspected after that recent TV spot. This is an interesting change in direction from the way previous Batman movies have handled the voice situation. Another tidbit released in the article is that many of the Caped Crusader’s foes are locked up in Arkham Asylum and that Jeremy Irons’ Alfred Pennyworth is a butler “when required”, but will actually be a lot more “hands-on” in this movie, utilizing his special-ops background.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters on March 25, 2016.
