In the third act of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Lex Luthor (played by Jesse Eisenberg) reveals to Superman (played by Henry Cavill) that he has kidnapped his mother. He reveals that he will have her killed unless Superman does battle with Batman (played by Ben Affleck).
So, the situation begs the question: Why didn’t Superman just find his mother and save her? He could have used his super hearing to find her.
BvS director Zack Snyder explains that while the Man of Steel has godlike powers, he can’t–or chooses–not to be everywhere at once. “I think all the way – to me, from Metropolis to Smallville is probably just on the edge of his range of hearing” described Snyder. “Also the clutter of the city makes it difficult as well.”
Well, that sounds…plausible. But to the discriminating fanboy or fangirl, they will want more of an explanation. “We had a scene that we cut from the movie where he tries to look for her when he finds out that Lex has got her,” he continued. “It was a slightly dark scene that we cut out because it sort of represented this dark side. Because when he was looking for his mom he heard all the cries of all the potential crimes going on in the city, you know when you look.
Let’s hope the scene will be a part will be part of the extended blu ray release. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is in theaters now.
