DC Co-Publisher Jim Lee will make a surprise appearance at the Big Apple Comic-Con today from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., filling in as a last minute substitute for the ailing Stan Lee.

“Big Apple Comic Con has just been informed that due to health issues Stan Lee will no longer be appearing at the convention on either Saturday, March 11th or Sunday, March 12th,” con organizers announced on Instagram. “Stan keeps to an amazing schedule and it seems to have taken its toll. We are terribly sorry for any inconvenience but the show must go on.

Stan Lee, 94, was to have officiated at a wedding to be staged during the con, between convention co-founder Michael Carbonaro and model Nina Martinez. No word on if the slightly less-famous Lee will fill in there as well.

Still, it’s a pretty big thing Jim Lee has agreed to do, considering that DC Comics is now based a continent away from its former stomping grounds.

“Jim is literally flying out to spend THREE hours on Saturday signing for fans,” con officials said, also on Instagram.

So, a big cheer to DC co-pub Lee for being a great guy!

The Big Apple Comic Con is being held at the Penn Plaza Pavilion in the Hotel Pennsylvania in Manhattan, New York City — right across from Madison Square Garden. You can still buy tickets online at bigapplecc.com.
