According to TVLine, Defiance alum Jesse Rath has signed on to play a half computer, half organic life form boasting a 12-level intellect. Of course, we’re referring to Brainiac 5.
Brainiac 5 is a member of the Legion of Super-Heroes who travels to National City from the 31st Century to help Supergirl and the DEO battle Reign, the villain that L-Corp CEO Samantha Arias (played by Odette Annable) is on track to becoming.
According to the history of DC Comics, Brainiac 5 has been much more than a colleague of Supergirl’s. As co-showrunner Andrew Kreisberg mentions about the character’s arrival, “Someone down the road will like Kara a lot, which will be a lot of fun.” This should be interesting as Supergirl’s ex boyfriend Mon-El, who was forced off the planet, also has ties to the Legion of Superheroes.
Look for Rath’s first appearance in Season 3, Episode 10 — which is titled “Legion of Super-Heroes.”
