The Wall Street Journal recently interviewed DC Comics President and CCO Geoff Johns on his new position as co-head of DC Films, a job which he’ll be undertaking alongside producer Jon Berg. The position is serious business with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad grossing a combined $1.5 billion at the global box office.

Geoff Johns made official confirmation that Joe Manganiello is being cast as Deathstroke. Johns also spoke about plans for the upcoming Justice League film saying:

“Mistakenly in the past I think the studio has said, ‘Oh, DC films are gritty and dark and that’s what makes them different.’ That couldn’t be more wrong. It’s a hopeful and optimistic view of life. Even Batman has a glimmer of that in him. If he didn’t think he’d make tomorrow better, he’d stop.”

With a huge number of complaints from several people regarding the dark tone of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, both Johns and Berg worked closely with movie director Zack Snyder and screenwriter Chris Terrio to make what they felt were adequate changes to the Justice League material. Berg offered his opinion on why they reformulated their Justice League plans going forward saying:

“We accelerated the story to get to the hope and optimism a little faster.”

Do you think Geoff Johns is the right person to be appointed co-head of DC Films? What do you make of the change in formula being made to the Justice League movie? Let us know in the comments!
