Last March, a rumor circulated that The Batman script was starting from scratch, and now we can confirm, coming from its director, Matt Reeves, that they are, in fact, starting from scratch.

On the MTV’s Happy Sad Confused podcast, where Reeves guested, the host, Josh Horowitz, asked him if he would be working off of Ben Affleck and Geoff Johns’ original script. He responded:

“No, it’s a new story. It’s just starting again. I’m excited about it. I think it’s going to be cool.”

Now, this can be bad news for Joe Manganiello, who was supposed to portray the film version of Deathstroke. Recently, Reeves also mentioned that he wants to make the new Batman film an emotionally driven, noir detective version.

In addition, Matt Reeves had a meeting with Warner Bros. about The Batman. He then tells them that he needs a break after working on War for the Planet of the Apes for three years. So this means that The Batman will not begin production this year.
