Summary

Responding to massive release of source wall energy, the Titans are sent to investigate! However when they reach a small, isolated town all is not what it seems! What happens next is a fight for survival that ends in a shocking revelation!

Positives

Once again I’m completely blown away by this issue of Titans #26. Here, we find the team responding to a massive release of source wall energy from a small isolated town with no more than 1,000 people. Once the Titans arrive on site, they find the town completely abandoned. What happens next is an ambush that places the team in the fight for their lives. Nightwing once again shines in this issue, as he takes command of the situation and knows how to respond. However it’s more than just Nightwing that’s a star here–each character has their moments in this issue and I love it. I’m particularly interested in Donna Troy and her intense drinking before the start of the mission. Obviously she’s going through something and hopefully next issue we can find out exactly what it is.

Negatives

I have no complaints about this issue. The action is great, the story is interesting and there is a great moment between Beast Boy and Nightwing that was really needed. Nightwing, like his predecessor and mentor Batman often feels the weight of leadership on his shoulders. When the revelation about the town is made, Nightwing seems to be shocked, but at the same time pretty emotionally distraught as well. There’s a moment where we see Nightwing vulnerable, where you can see in his face he needs reassurance about his leadership–and Beast Boy gives it to him.

Verdict

Overall I loved reading Titans #26. It was a good read, and judging be the ending Abnett is going to give us something epic in the future issues. The return of the Blood Cult seems to be actually happening, and the source wall energy seems to be at the center of it all. Hopefully next issue we’ll see more of the Blood Cult, and what exactly their true plans are.
